Talbot Wins GTWC Australia Championship

Liam Talbot has been crowned champion of the 2023 GT World Challenge Australia Pro-Am Class after an exciting weekend in Adelaide, putting the Scuderia Autoart-sponsored #65 Audi in the top spot of the standings.

A season to remember for Talbot and the Shannons #65 Audi team. Arriving as favourites to win it all before the weekend, Liam Talbot and Christopher Mies made sure to push the Audi R8 LMS EVO II just enough to secure the Pro-Am Class title. From tough-luck moments to hard battles to dominating performances, the maiden championship victory for Talbot is the perfect ending to a hard-fought season that had it all.

Starting from the front row for the final race, Talbot and Shahin engaged in a gripping battle as they built a gap ahead of the rest of the grid in the opening laps. Shahin managed to widen the gap to nearly two seconds, making a strong bid in the fight for second place in the championship. Talbot closed in towards the end of the stint, remaining on the tail of Shahin's Porsche as they both entered the pits at the end of lap nine for their compulsory pit stops.

With Pro co-drivers Matt Campbell and Christopher Mies taking the wheel for the final stint, the EMA Porsche, benefiting from a shorter compulsory pit stop left the pits with a three-second advantage. This was Mies' last race for Audi Sport as a factory driver, and what a drive to close this chapter, gradually closing the gap on Campbell. Mies later reduced pace and focused on bringing the car home, also letting Hofer through to help Emery grab second place in the championship and make it 1-2 for Audi Sport in the standings. With the third-place finish, Talbot and Christopher Mies secured Talbot's first GT World Challenge Australia title.

After a hard-fought race, a very tight weekend, and a truly gruelling season that left the title to be decided on the final race, the Shannons #65 Audi came out on the top spot after finishing second in 2022. Scuderia Autoart is extremely proud to have supported Liam Talbot, Fraser Ross, and the entire Shannons Audi team during this glorious campaign and look forward to more joint success in the future.
